Sustainability
Protecting Nature’s Legacy,
Sustaining Our Future
The 3 Pillars Concept
The three pillars of People, Profit, and Planet (3P) form the cornerstone of our sustainability framework. This 3P approach prioritizes ecosystem protection, evaluates the impact of our operations on local communities, and emphasizes high production efficiency at minimal costs to ensure economic viability. By integrating these principles into its strategy, Sawit Kinabalu maintains high productivity while preserving the environment, supporting communities, and securing benefits for future generations.

GROUP PROJECT
Our Conservation Area
A rehabilitation program, involving community engagement and the planting of half a million endemic trees, has significantly reduced encroachment and facilitated the return of wild orangutans. Inspired by this success, the group has identified over 7,000 hectares in Kudat, Beaufort, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, and Tawau for conservation.
GROUP PROJECT
Sg Pin Conservation Project
The Sungai Pin Conservation Area, spanning 2,500 hectares in Lower Kinabatangan within Sawit Kinabalu Group's plantation, originally intended for rattan cultivation, faced challenges post-conversion to oil palm estates, including flooding and encroachment. Despite maintaining a small oil palm plot, much of the area is unsuitable for cultivation. Committed to sustainability, the group aims to conserve and reforest flood-prone areas, expanding the riparian buffer zone. In 2017, they partnered with Sabah Forestry Department via the Sabah EU-REDD+ Project to enhance carbon stocks and establish a conservation management plan.
GROUP PROJECT
Orang Utan Protection and Conservation
Sawit Kinabalu made history as the first oil palm company in Sabah to pioneer an orangutan bridge, completed between October 21-23, 2019, in collaboration with experts from Hutan, a crucial partner of the Pongo Alliance. The outcomes exceeded expectations, witnessing the bridge over Sungai Pin facilitating its initial five crossings a mere 26 days post-installation, all achieved within eight months.
