Today marks the official commissioning of Sabah’s first plant dedicated to refining and producing Tocotrienols, proudly launched in Kunak
The facility is owned by Kunak Lipids Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Sawit Kinabalu, the state government’s investment arm in the palm oil industry. It is a Sabah-driven investment in high-quality, high value-added industries.
Tocotrienols, known as a super form of Vitamin E, are prized for their strong antioxidant properties. They are widely recognized in the health and medical sectors, and can be developed into health products aimed at combating cholesterol, cancer, stroke, and aging.
I had the honor of visiting this factory during its construction last year and have since closely monitored, supported, and promoted its progress. Today, Sabah’s downstream industrialization takes a bold step forward — transforming our palm oil raw materials into high-value products.
With a market price of up to USD 300 per kilogram, Tocotrienols are worth over a hundred times more than ordinary cooking oil.
This milestone reflects the Sabah Ministry of Industrial Development’s long-standing mission: advancing downstream industries, building a complete value chain, creating high-skilled job opportunities, and steering Sabah toward prosperity.
